Spring into Your Intentions with Our Special Spring Equinox Celebration

Gratitude and appreciation for the wonders of the natural world are key qualities of a yogi, and our relationship with the sun and moon have long been a point of study.

Join Yoga Anytime teachers Kira Ryder, Alana Mitnick, and Julia Berkeley on March 20th, the Spring Equinox, for a sequence of special practices to celebrate and honor the compassionate, warm, and fiery energies of Surya (the Sun) and the wise, cooling, mysterious energies of Chandra (the Moon).

The number 108 has long been considered sacred for the yogis. It’s difficult to know exactly why as the theories and legends are numerous and actual records few. Yet it is wonderful to discover that:

  • *The distance between the Earth and Sun is 108 times the Sun’s diameter
  • *The distance between the Earth and Moon is 108 times the Moon’s diameter
  • *The diameter of the Sun is 108 times that of the Earth
  • *The radius of the Moon is 108 miles

The yogis also say that there are 108 nadis (channels) radiating from the heart center. We feel this more strongly when we are close to good friends, so we feel extra lucky to get to share this practice together. Julia, Alana and Kira (who are yogini friends in ‘real life’) collaborated to create this offering for this special day.

We wake up in the morning with:

  • *Four sets of 27 rounds of Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath or Breath of Fire) with Kira
  • *Three sets of 9 rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) A, B an C with Alana
  • *108 rounds of japa practice, chanting ‘Om Suryaya Namaha’ (I honor the energies of the Sun)
    with Julia

At noon, we balance the sun and moon’s energies with:

  • *Three sets of 9 rounds of Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (Channel Cleansing Breath Work) with Kira

We end our day with:

  • *9 rounds of Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutations) with Julia
  • *9 rounds of Sitali Pranayama (Cooling Breath work) with Kira
  • *108 rounds of Japa practice, chanting Om Chandraya Namaha (I honor the energies of the Moon) with Julia

So happy to be together. Earn a special sun and moon Equinox badge for participating.
