What's on your summer reading list?

Ah, summer—long days, warm nights, ocean swims, endless laughter, and maybe time to finally pick up that new book you've been wanting to read all year. Need help finding the perfect page turner to accompany you on your next trip to the beach? Here are our top picks this season.

  • Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
  • by Yuval Noah Harar

If self awareness is a goal, the origin story of our species is always fun to investigate. Well written, entertaining, and mind opening.

  • The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
  • by Charles Duhigg

If you're geeky like us, it's delightful to connect modern research with what the sages have known for a long time. This book is filled with great stories that can help us understand how small changes can make a huge impact.

  • How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain
  • by Lisa Feldman Barrett and Cassandra Campbell

It's always helpful to continually and vigilantly understand that nothing has self-existence, and everything is contextual, conditional, and interdependent.

  • The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully
  • by Frank Ostaseski

There's nothing like investigating the process of death to recommit to your life.

  • Ka: Stories of the Mind and Gods of India
  • by Roberto Calasso

A must for anyone drawn to the Indian mythology. Rich and luxurious in detail and delight, a pleasure for the senses.

  • Upstream: Selected Essays
  • by Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver is one of our most favorite sages. We love the way she helps us experience the natural and interior worlds.

  • To the Lighthouse
  • by Virginia Woolf

A literary classic that portrays a moving peak into the tensions of relationships and family life and the human capacity for change.

I'm reading The Power of an Open Question: The Buddha's Path to Freedom by Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel. I'm about halfway through, and it has made me seriously rethink my ideas of right and wrong, and consider how I can actively live the questions I have about my life instead of feeling restless about not having answers.
