I see Lakshmi in flowers, nature, colours, beauty. When in a stunning natural place, I will say, wow, I am in Lakshmi's garden. When opportunity or connection or delight comes my way that feels incredibly fortunate, I bow to Lakshmi for the boons.
I think of the mantra as a prayer, a bow or a nod to the feminine nurturing source of reality that supports us every day already. For me it is saying Wow, look at this life. Utter gratitude for life that is given right now, not for what might come in the future.
