I LOVE your approach and feel wonderful after each session. Thank you so much for sharing the practice in such a grounded no nonsense way!
I have a question- I cannot believe the clicking and creaking sounds from what feels like every part of my body during the movements- it´s a wee bit scary at times actually! However, if I reduce the range of movements so there are no clicks and creaks, I feel I may not be getting the full benefit....any thoughts?
Michelle F Hello Thanks for your note and wonderful feedback :) A good self check Do the sounds also accompany pain? If the answer is yes, then I would dial your range of movement back to a point that does not bring pain and perhaps discuss your range of movement challenges with a doctor or physical therapist. If the answer is no, its very likely that (from an Ayurvedic perspective) you have alot of "Vata"- or air element in your body. Popping and clicking sounds coming from the joints can be indicative of a vata imbalance. If the movements don't bring pain then it could be just air releasing from the joints. Vata imbalances can manifest in issues w/the joints, bones and the colon. Some foods that can help Vata re-balance are: grounding root vegetables, oily foods like avocado, spices like, pepper, cardamon, cinnamon, fennel & tumeric...
Michelle F ..Foods that taste sweet and sour are ok, but reduce exposure to pungent, bitter and astringent tastes. Also a good all around helper is to drink 60-80 oz of water daily, too. All that said, its always best to consult a doctor and perhaps consider speaking to an Ayurvedic specialist who can help you apply gentle and practical diet and lifestyle adjustments to stabilize any imbalances in your doshas.
Thanks so much for your response....no pain whatsoever. My constitution is Vata/Pitta ---I think you hit the nail on the head! My vata is through the roof! I´ve just put a tray of root veg into the oven for lunch and also realised I´ve been neglecting self-massage so will give myself a good oiling later! Also maybe overdoing the astringent/bitter- especially soy sauce which for some reason I can´t seem to get enough of recently......coffee because I have had an 8am English class for the las three weeks- a total revolution for me to be up and working at that time of the morning. Thanks so much for reminders!
Michelle F I’m so happy to hear that offering resonates with you. I’ll be curious to know if the popping joints subside after your adjustments in diet 🙏
Well!!!!! Am I glad I reached out about the popping - your response really made me slow down and reflect....and here we are three days later and my deranged vata feels soothed and seen! Cut out the extra pot of coffee! the soy sauce and concentrating on the roots- feel so much better already. I was literally frazzled- the pause for reflection made me realise than another new online class ive been doing these
last few weeks at 3pm has also greatly contributed - when I would normally be digesting lunch but I'm now having to do another online English class then before racing into the academy at 5...lots of wee things which I just hadn't balanced out- gave myself two days screen free at the weekend and have been self massaging daily with a jasmine, lavender ,clary sage mix-
I repeated the kriya set this evening and what do you know! hardly a creak! Just going to have a bowl of soup then chill for a while before bed
Thanks again Kara- what a wonderful journey it is!
Michelle F How wonderful! I admire your enthusiasm to make modifications to remedy the issues you're having. Many people would have a hard time saying good bye to their morning coffee! It's so interesting to see how our bodies are always inclined to quickly regain balance the more we participate in the process. Thanks for the follow up!
