Fear of the future - fear of the unknown - this can be absolutely paralyzing. As a mother, I know this. The fear of some kind of harm coming to my children, 3 of whom live at a distance from us at the moment. Perhaps this is a little bit like what Arjuna feels here...

So Arjuna is in despair, he surrenders, he makes himself a vessel to receive.  All that is really what you talked about in the previous verse James, surrender as in let go of old patterns, but interestingly he turns to the highest, we could see that as turning into his own true, real, deep, inner voice who for illustrative purposes is Kṛṣṇa, that's what I get from this
