A beautifully informative article and I love this shift in perspective of this ancient practice. “ We cannot get lost in what a pose looks like; we must be more absorbed in what our yoga FEELS LIKE” is the stand out eye-opening “ah ha” statement for me. In this world so many of us are cut off from our feelings , constantly striving, striving, striving mindlessly. Keying in to try and truly “feel” again particularly in my yoga practice is an invitation I will be taking up as from now. I feel released. Thankyou and blessings to you for this wonderful piece xxxxx
Such embodied wisdom here, Kate Smith! I remember once my Bharatanatyam teacher remarking that if a hasta mudra (hand position) didn't feel "right" , then it wasn't right. The position has to facilitate the flow of internal energy. And of course, same with āsana! After experiencing earlier years of pushing my practice and thereby sustaining injury, I've learned the hard way... I'm MUCH happier now!
