Heather D

A yoga practitioner for fifteen years with experience in the Vinyasa, Iyengar, Yin, and Restorative styles of yoga, my first yoga class was through a video in my living room at home. It took me two years to summon the courage to enter an actual yoga class, but once I did, I was hooked! After dabbling in various styles of yoga, I settled on the Vinyasa as my favorite and received my 285-hour teacher training certification from Blue Lotus Yoga & Movement Arts in Raleigh, where I am currently pursuing my 500-hour certification. My teaching philosophy stems from the belief that every body can benefit from the practice of yoga.

My Yoga Inspirations

What inspires you? What nourishes you? What brings you joy?
At its simplest form, yoga is about creating space to allow for clarity and movement and anyone can create space. Having overcome a significant health challenge in 2010 and currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for a rare disorder in 2015 while maintaining my yoga practice, I am particularly sensitive to the needs of students recovering from surgeries, illness, or emotional hurdles. When I’m not teaching yoga, you might find me cooking for my husband and son, brainstorming all the possible ways to organize legos and superheros, singing at church, teaching a bit of music to kiddos, checking out way too many library books, writing for a few other blogs, or paddle-boarding around the coast.
