Read About This Teacher

Margi is a bright, sophisticated, inspired yogini who teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area and leads retreats and trainings locally and in Brazil, Mexico, Bali, Italy and other places around the world.

Leading online classes since the pandemic erupted, she finds that feeling feet, breath, sky, lungs, roots, softness and all the things we do on our mat at home are quite simple compared to the chaos of the world — and quite simply more necessary than ever.

Margi holds a E500 status with Yoga Alliance, as well as certifications in restorative yoga (Judith Hanson Lasater), mindfulness (Mindfulness Training Institute), prenatal yoga (Integral Yoga Institute), pelvic floor yoga (Leslie Howard), and craniosacral therapy (Ellen Mossman). Sonima, a wellness brand that promotes living healthy, balanced, and happy lives, named Margi one of the most influential yoga teachers in America.

A native San Franciscan, Margi came to yoga from the world of dance. Over two decades ago, after attending Mills College and spending years in the Bay Area performing and teaching dance, Margi began to practice yoga. The union of movement with spirituality piqued her curiosity, and she took that with her when she moved to New York City to attend New York University's TISCH School of the Arts. There, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance and choreography and also met Michael Cecconi, the love of her life.

Margi returned to yoga for a respite from the fierce dance world, in a studio redolent with smoky incense called Jivamukti, which holds that one's relationship to others should be mutually beneficial and come from a consistent place of joy and happiness. That experience offered her serenity within the bustle of New York City, and over time, Margi realized she was much happier on her thin blue yoga mat than in the mirrored dance studio.

Margi then discovered Cyndi Lee's OM Yoga Center, where precise Iyengar-inspired alignment meshed with vinyasa flow and Buddhist principles. After attending a teacher- training program in 2001, Margi taught classes and workshops at OM for 10 years. She joined the prestigious teacher training faculty at OM in 2006.

In 2011, the family moved back to the Bay Area, where Margi continues to share her limitless joy for yoga. Margi's classes and rich with intelligent alignment, laced with invitations for awareness, and reminders to enjoy any joy that comes our way! She seeks to meet each student as an individual, and support them on their journey.
