Hi, thank you for the lesson, I enjoyed it very much and at the same time I was expecting something more clear in relation to the experience of the different body's systems, I assumed that "earth" would relate to the scheletal system and that we would get some insight in to that. I am wondering if I have created misleading expectations assuming that Somatic reffered to Body Mind Centering frame of reference?
Hi Leesa, it’s hard to say what is happening with your calf without seeing you or knowing more but it may be useful to include some calf stretches at the beginning of your practice. Like a runners stretch, which is like a short warrior one. I often do this with my hands to the wall or on a counter top. Let me if that helps at all.
Hi Tatiana, thank you so much for being here and for practicing with me. You could definitely connect the skeletal system to the earth and also other systems can yield too by dropping down and receiving support. Somatic practices bring you into your own experience. Washing the dishes could be somatic if you are really arriving for the experience of touching and being touched by water, soap and the ground. Body Mind Centering is a beautiful somatic practice that has a large focus on experimental anatomy. Its been trademarked but is still very much alive and evolving. There are other somatic schools like Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, continuum, Rubenfield Synergy. I’ve studied and continue to study in these Schools but there are others and they all have slightly different focuses.
I’ve chosen to allow for wider brush strokes and spacious language within in this series. It’s lovely that you are finding ways to detail your experience and connecting your skeletal system to the earth is great!
Thank you for this wonderfully rich and deeply mindful practice. The exquisite detail into grounding was for me a sacred practice. Being intimately in our bodies is so essential to our physical and spiritual health. I find this to be the missing piece to many yoga teachings. Thank you for helping us explore in this way. Namaste. ❤️🙏🏻
Janie, Hello! Thank you for sharing. I agree with you. It is a sacred experience. I've been doing a practice lately where I look at one of my favorite trees in my yard and then I look down the trunk and imagine it's roots. I let the imagining become a feeling in my body and it really is profound to be with the ground similar to the way roots feel the earth. It's so nourishing especially during this time of so much change.
