The launch of Mother Tongue is the beginning of the Sanskrit study program we have always wanted. Dr. Anuradha Choudry presents the study of Sanskrit as a yoga practice. Her absolute delight and love of the language is infectious, and what might be understood as difficult and dry becomes exciting and juicy.
We will begin slowly with an understanding of the anatomy of our mouths and from where each kind of sound is coming. We then move into the sounding and writing of 50 letters, and eventually start to play with word combinations. In between the detailed lessons, we will explore pronunciation of the asanas, singing of vedic mantras and review of some of the most common usual yoga sutras of Patnajali.
The study of Sanskrit is not essential to benefit from the magic of the yoga practices. The practices of yoga continually evolve and change to suit each time period and people. We have simply found a yearning to deepen our relationship with these teachings, particularly the texts, through sitting closer to their original language.
